La PORTE —Commissioner Dr. Vidya Kora, an NRI, has been honored with the Circle of Corydon Award at La Porte County Commissioners meeting.

Dr Vidya Kora is a general internist with the Franklin Clinic in Michigan City and one of three La Porte County Commissioners. He is also chairman of the Franciscan Alliance Northern Region Board of Directors, as well as the Indiana delegate to the American Medical Association.

The Circle of Corydon Award is given by the governor of Indiana. This newly established award recognizes exemplary citizens who have made significant contributions to the betterment of Indiana. The award is the second-highest honor an Indiana resident can receive.

Indiana State Sen. Mike Bohacek represented Gov. Eric Holcomb and recognized Dr Vidya Kora for his achievement in politics as well as medicine.

Dr Vidya Kora is a general internist with the Franklin Clinic in Michigan City and one of three La Porte County Commissioners. He is also chairman of the Franciscan Alliance Northern Region Board of Directors, as well as the Indiana delegate to the American Medical Association.

Kora sits on the board for the Northwest Indiana Workforce Development as chair. He has served two terms as La Porte County coroner and on the board of the Unity Foundation of La Porte County. He was named to the 2018 Times Business and Industry Hall of Fame last April.

As part of the Indiana State Medical Association, Kora worked with previous governor, Mitch Daniels, and state legislature to pass the Healthy Indiana Plan, which later became HIP 2.0. This expansion of Indiana’s Medicaid has helped bring medical coverage to many Hoosiers previously unable to afford healthcare.
