Airlines cut fares to woo passengers for lean season, SpiceJet first off block

NEW DELHI: Airlines have dropped fares by up to 50% in an attempt to fill up seats in the lean travel season that will last up to mid-April..SpiceJet was first off the block on Wednesday when it offered five lakh seats at fares starting from Rs 1,499. 

This offer is open for bookings made from January 28 to January 30, and is for travel between February 15 and June 30, 2015, and is applicable on all direct flights on SpiceJet's domestic network.

The offer available on first come first served basis, and seats per flight are limited, the airline said:

“We are excited to offer our first signature promotion for 2015 to incentivize customers to try our enhanced schedule and reward early planners with great discounted fares. Such Super Sale offers are meant to sell in advance at attractive prices, seats that would otherwise be expected to go empty, thereby improving revenues.

With this offer, customers who have not planned to travel due to high last minutes fares can now plan in advance and enjoy super low fares to meet their travel needs”, said Kaneswaran Avili, Chief Commercial Officer, SpiceJet Ltd.

“We want to thank our customers and partners for their patience and support as we continue on our re-structuring path,” said Sanjiv Kapoor, Chief Operating Office, SpiceJet Ltd.

“Such promotions are an integral part of the LCC pricing model," Mr Kapoor said.

"This sale offer coming from SpiceJet after a gap of few months shows the airline is back on track. Jet Airways also joined the sale bandwagon and is offering all-inclusive return tickets starting from Rs 4,459. Under the scheme which is valid till March 31, Jet is offering a Goa-Mumbai-Goa ticket for Rs 4,459. The return fares for Pune-Hyderabad; Kochi-Chennai; Nagpur-Mumbai and Delhi-Leh are Rs 5,019; Rs 5,901; Rs 6,143 and Rs 6,826, respectively.
