Abigail Igarta, John Redhead win Chinmaya Mission NWI 5K run walk

GRIFFITH - Hari OM! Chinmaya Mission NWI conducted its third OM Run on Sunday, Sept 22nd 2019 at Oak Ridge Prairie in Griffith, Indiana. 120 runners/walkers participated in the chip timed 5K run/walk. The race had runners from 4 years to 80 years taking part.

 

Swami Sharananandji, the resident acharya of the Chinmaya Mission Chicago center opened the race with prayers and blessing. The Female Masters winner of the race is Abigail Igarta and Male Masters winner is John Redhead. Amy Maciejewski and Samyuktha Swaminathan took the first and second place in the Female Open Runners category. In the Male Open Runners category Mike Berger and Aaron Cook came in first and second place.

 

Part of the proceeds from the race will be donated to CORD – Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development—the service wing of Chinmaya mission. The mission of CORD is to facilitate integrated and sustainable development in rural India through self-empowerment processes.

 

The Chinmaya Mission Northwest Indiana Center was established in 2002. Recently on July 27th, 2019, the new building for the mission was inaugurated by Pujya Swami Swaroopanandaji, Head of Chinmaya Mission World-Wide. Under the guidance of Swami Sharananandaji and Acharya Nirmita Dholakiaji, Chinmaya Mission NWI conducts adult Vedanta classes and Children’s Balavihar classes every Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
