At His 'Agenda-Free' Press-Meet, Consul General Dalela Talks ‘Good Things.’ Consciously Keeps Finance Minister’s Chicago Visit Under Wraps

CHICAGO – At a press conference, that he convened at India’s Chicago Consulate, Sudhakar Dalela, the CGOI informed that the “restrictions on the use of mobile phones in Jammu and Kashmir have been lifted” and the block level elections announced.

Accompanied by his subordinates, Sudhakar Dalela was addressing the pressmen from Chicago. He stated that democratic process is underway in Jammu and Kashmir much in lines with the commitment of Prime Minister Modi.  He expressed confidence that “the steps that India government is taking shall result in a better J & K.” The block level elections in the stated have been slated for 24 Oct 2019.

Dalela added that the apple harvest in the state has been smoothly reaped and the trucks are plying unhindered to cart the produce to the related markets for further trading.

While shunning the voices of dissent, Consul General stated that “we [India] are a democratic country and people can raise their voice.

Consul General Sudhakar Dalela, consciously evaded the question when asked about India Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s visit to Chicago. For a fraction of a moment, Dalela displayed stoic stiffness in response to the affirmative question, “Sitharaman is coming.” He then moved on without replying or disclosing anything. 

Consul General was all praises for the local NRI community, whom is described as “aggressively active.” “They keep us busy,” he added.  He expressed high appreciation for Indian community organizations for their overwhelming celebrations of the Gandhi Anniversary. He made it a point to even name a few of them — some well-established, some banner-based, some in infancy — that have in some way or the other organized Gandhi Events. He announced that thirteen of the selected artwork by young artists will be displayed in Indian Consulate Chicago. “It’s a good way to do it; people get exposure to Gandhi,” he quipped.

Going by the murmurs in town, Nirmala Sitharaman is visiting Chicago around 20 October 2019. Indian Consulate is hosting a morning get-together with chosen few in her honor at the Indian Consulate, Chicago.

Appreciative of the success of the Howdy Modi Rally in Huston, Sudhakar Dalela informed that “it was not easy to organize 50000 people. We [Indian Consulate] were working with Texas India Forum who organized it.”

Consul General also briefed about his ensuing effort to reach out to the wider community. “I agree that we should make more efforts to reach out to the community. …I have decided to have a monthly Consular Camp,” he informed. He also expressed his consent to start writing a newspaper column related to Consular activities. He also referred to some of the ensuing events that Consulate plans to organize.
