Mallya's New Hide And Seek Game

June 26, 2020 03:18 PM

Vijay Mallya on one side and entire India on the other side. But still India is finding it difficult to bring him back to punish for the financial crime he committed.

Right now, apart from the government of India, even the Indian banks are approaching the UK courts with fresh salvos to corner Vijay Mallya.

The former liquor and airline baron, as we know, is very much in London despite its High Court turning down his application for permission to appeal in the Supreme Court.

Mallya's advocates are so strong in the UK and so even though India has won the extradition case, Mallya is not coming home anytime soon due to a file stuck with the UK home office.

Mallya is also making the most of his other lesser-known judicial victories. He managed to salvage a yacht belonging to a firm linked to him, which was ordered by the court to be sold in a case filed by Qatar National Bank.

Even more remarkable was the deal he struck with another firm which allows him to keep for himself the London mansion, successfully fending off a Swiss bank seeking to foreclose it.

Though he is sure to make the most of the glorious summer in Britain right now, we aren’t certain if he misses his fair-weather friends.
