Strawberry Spinach Smoothie

Strawberries – Choose fresh red and juicy strawberries. While selecting, choose the firm ones and avoid the ones with soft patches or black marks. Freeze them, until they are ready to use.

Spinach – This recipe uses baby spinach, but you can use regular spinach too. Wash and pluck the leaves from the stem before adding in the smoothie. You can even use frozen spinach for this smoothie.

Frozen Banana- adds a creamy texture to the smoothie along with making it thick and adding sweetness. You can get frozen fruits from Costco, to make your everyday morning smoothie.

Yogurt – Add a little more creaminess with yogurt. You can even add milk, but I prefer yogurt due to its thick and creamy texture.

Orange Juice – The addition of orange juice helps to adjust the consistency and also hides the raw taste of baby spinach.

Honey – This is optional, but if you find that your smoothie is not sweet enough, add in some honey.

Chia Seeds – Add in chia seeds to make your smoothie even healthier, as these tiny black seeds are extremely rich in antioxidants.

How to make Strawberry Spinach Smoothie?

Start by preparing the fruits. Wash 10-12 large strawberries and chop off the top leafy part. Now cut the strawberries into small pieces. Freeze the strawberry for 5-6 hours.

Peel a large banana, cut into slices and freeze for 5-6 hours.

Wash the baby spinach and drain the excess water. You can use a salad spinner to get rid of the extra water in the washed leaves. To save time, use washed spinach.

If you have forgotten to freeze the fruits beforehand, add a few ice cubes to the blender while making the smoothie. It will make it creamy.

Juice 2-3 oranges to get 1 cup of orange juice or use bottled juice.

Add 1 cup chopped and frozen strawberries, 1 peeled, sliced and frozen banana, 200 g baby spinach, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1 cup orange juice, ½ cup yogurt and 1 tbsp honey to a high speed blender.

You can thaw the frozen fruits on the counter for 10 minutes if they are too hard.

All the ingredients added in a blender.

Variations

Fruits – Add in other fruits such as kiwi, mangoes, blueberry, raspberries etc.

Greens – Instead of baby spinach, you can use regular spinach, kale, beet greens, lettuce, celery, Swiss chard, etc.

Others – Add protein powder, nut butters while making the smoothie.

Vegan – Use non-dairy yogurt or vegan milk options such as almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, etc instead of yogurt. Skip adding honey or use maple syrup to add sweetness.

Serving Suggestions

Serve strawberry spinach smoothie for your breakfast, snack, or dessert. It can be enjoyed at any time of the day, whenever the hunger strikes.

You can also top this strawberry and spinach smoothie with chopped fruits, nuts, seeds, coconut flakes, nut butter, granola, etc to make a breakfast smoothie bowl.

Storage Suggestions
I would recommend you to make strawberry banana spinach smoothie fresh, as it tastes the best that way. But if you have leftovers, store them in a covered glass container in the fridge and finish them within a day. Shake it or mix it well before consuming.
