Jammu, March 04: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said that militant attack at Sunjwan military station and the rape and murder of an eight year old nomad girl in Kathua district are a “part of deep rooted conspiracy to disturb communal harmony and brotherhood in the peaceful Jammu region.

“Successive regimes hoodwinked around 60,000 youth including daily wagers, consolidated workers and others on the name of employment,” Mehbooba said.

Addressing a PDP youth convention here, Mehbooba while said that there are many forces which have been continuously conspiring and are making all attempts to  create “wedge between Hindus and Muslims”  in Jammu region.

“The attack at Sunjwan Army camp was an attack on the communal harmony and brotherhood. It was an attempt to pit two communities against each other,” Mehbooba said. “Murder of a girl at Kathua was also an attempt to shatter communal harmony and brotherhood, and unfortunately, some forces are trying to give communal color to the incident.”

She urged the people of Jammu region to maintain communal harmony and brotherhood which, she said, has been maintained by them since ages.  “Jammu is an abode of communal harmony and brotherhood not only in the entire country but in the whole world,” she added.

“The people of Jammu, despite all odds, have always welcomed everyone be it Kashmiri Pandits or be it Muslims”.

She said, “Our wealth are yatras like Amarnathyatra, Vaishno Devi Yatra, tourism, etc but fidayeen attacks, militancy, border shelling and violence have let us down and ruined us,” Mebooba said.

She urged people not to get misled and help the government to maintain peace for prosperous future.

“Successive regimes hoodwinked around 60,000 youth including daily wagers, consolidated workers and others on the name of employment,” Mehbooba said.

She said that 60,000 youth had no future and were paid a meager sum of Rs 500 to Rs 1000 as salary and that too on Diwali or Eid. “Keeping in view their future, we regularized them and gave them a dignified life.”
