Three killed, 13 injured as PRTC bus collides head-on with truck

PATIALA, Dec 30: At least three persons died while 13 others sustained injuries when a PRTC bus rammed into a truck near Gharanchon village in the Bhawanigarh segment of Sangrur district on Saturday morning.

Doctors at Bhawanigarh Civil Hospital said the condition of seven injured were quite critical and they were shifted to government Rajindra hospital at Patiala.

According to the eyewitnesses, the accident took place while the PRTC bus driver was trying to overtake another vehicle on the road but could not see the truck that was coming from the opposite direction due to dense fog.

The deceased were identified as the Tarsem Singh, driver of the bus who hailed from Muktsar district, Gurmeet Singh, who was driving the truck and was a resident of Sunam and one Ramandeep Singh, a resident of Patiala.

The bus was ferrying around 40 persons from Chandigarh and was en route to Bathinda, while the truck was coming towards Patiala from Sunam. Doctors at Bhawanigarh Civil Hospital said the condition of seven injured were quite critical and they were shifted to government Rajindra hospital at Patiala.

Soon after the accident took place residents from nearby villages rushed to the spot and initiated the rescue operations besides informing the police.
