Guru Nanak Celebrations at new Bolingbrook Gurudwara

BOLINGBROOK - More than 300 members of the Sikh community in the Bolingbrook Celebrated Guru Nanak’s 550th Anniversary here in Bolingbrook.The celebration was organized by newly instituted Guru Nanak Darbar Society. Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar attended.

 

Prakash Utsav which marks the birthday of the first Sikh Gur Guru and founder of Sikh religion, Guru Nanak Dev from November 7th to November 12th.His birthday are celebrated as one of the most sacred and grand festivals of Sikhism.

 

The program started with the singing of holy hymns and worship. Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar, Deputy Mayor Michael Lawler, and Trustee Maria Zarate attended the celebration. The mayor was honored to be Sikh turban.

 

Mayor Claar congratulated the Religious leader of Guru Nanak Darbar Society working under the leadership for making arrangement in Bolingbrook and for the arrangements made for 550th birthday celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak. Speaking on the occasion he said. “There is only one God, Goodwill for all equally, Speak the truth, help those in need, and earn an honest living. It is always a pleasure to be able represent Bolingbrook and celebrate its diversity. Guru Nanak teaching need to convey the benefits of his legacy to the all Humanity.”

 

Langar was served amidst special prayers. Many prominent members of the community perform speeches highlighted various aspects of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s life.

Many Pakistani American Muslims also attended the celebration. Pakistani poets from Chicagoland performs poetic hymns in the celebration.

 

Week-long celebration of the birth of Guru Nanak to be held at the several Sikh Temple in Chicagoland. Some Sikh Temple has already kick-started the celebrations.
