Crown Sydney Set To Open Its State-Of-The-Art Luxury Hotel In Late 2020

“Today marks a special moment in Crown’s history, which hopefully can also be a part of a new positive outlook for Sydney after months of unprecedented challenges for many in our community,” Helen Coonan, Chair of Crown Resorts, says. “This building was designed to be a tribute to Sydney and a landmark recognised around the world."  The completion of  final floor in the tower, putting very well and truly on the path to the completion.

Upon completion in December 2020, the opulent building designed by world-renowned architects WilkinsonEyre, will boast 50 different types of marble and stone throughout.

The 349-room hotel, 14 restaurants, bars and select retail will be open by the end of the year after four years of construction. Homeowners at Crown Residences at One Barangaroo, which are located on the upper floors of the building, are set to move in during the first half of 2021.

The captivating tower, which can be seen from all over the city, will showcase about 1,800 pieces of artwork – with 70% made by Australian artists.

Traditionally the completion of vertical constructions is celebrated with a large ceremony, however, the novel coronavirus saw a subdued affair with select VIPs.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has presented Crown with many challenges and has required us to make some difficult decisions,” Crown CEO Ken Barton says. “Today is about celebrating progress towards the start of a new part of Crown’s future."

“We are grateful for the New South Wales government’s decision to keep the construction industry open with strict COVID-19 measures in place. Not only has this supported over 1,300 jobs at our site at a time of great economic uncertainty, it also keeps us on track to provide over 2,000 jobs when we are open.”

While almost 237,888 tonnes of concrete has been poured and 8,000 of the 10,000 glass panels have been placed on the building’s exterior, thousands of people will continue to work on the interior fit-out of Crown Sydney.Of the bespoke features within the complex, there will be 50 custom-made crystal light installations, further adding to the magnificence of One Barangaroo.

The prestigious construction, which promises to redefine luxury as the newest sanctuary in the city, is the result of more than 100 suppliers, with the large majority being local.
