All eyes are on the postponed International Cricket Council (ICC) board meeting scheduled to be held via teleconference on Wednesday as the fate of the T20 World Cup 2020 is among the key things that is expected to be discussed by officials.

Cricket Australia announced the schedule for its home summer last month and there were positive signs for the T20 World Cup as it had left the window for the 16-team tournament which is scheduled to be held after a gap of 4 years.

Australian sports minister Richard Colbeck on Tuesday told the Sportstar that the country is optimistic of hosting the T20 World Cup as scheduled.

Notably, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer Arun Dhumal urged the ICC to take a call on the T20 World Cup at the earliest to avoid confusion surrounding the arrangement of bilateral series.

"Because one would need clarity before one can plan. We'd see how it unfolds," Arun Dhumal was quoted as saying by Reuters.

The BCCI treasurer also said he is not aware of any discussion about the postponement of T20 World Cup to 2021 even as speculation are rife that a delay is possible.

The Indian Premier League, which was scheduled to be held in April-May, has missed the window due to the pandemic and there are speculations that the BCCI will be able to host the IPL in September-October if the T20 World Cup is postponed. The ICC board meetingwas scheduled to be held on May 28 but all agenda items at the governing body's board meeting were deferred until 10 June after members raised the issue of confidentiality. While the ICC did not elaborate on 'confidentiality issue' it said it would set up an independent investigation led by the ICC Ethics officer into the matter.
