UAE ends cinema censorship, to adopt 21+ age rating

December 20, 2021 12:15 PM

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will no longer censor films released in theatres, Emirati Media Regulatory Authority announced on Sunday.

"The movies will be screened in cinemas according to their international version," it said.

Instead of cutting sensitive scenes that could offend traditional Islamic sensibilities, the government will introduce a new 21-plus age category for viewers.
