A suspended police inspector in Diu has been dismissed from service for acquiring Portuguese citizenship.
The inspector, identified as Pankesh Tandel, had allegedly also submitted a forged birth certificate to enrol with the Union Territory police, following which he had been suspended.
Portugal had colonised Diu and had control over the island till 1961.
